Marriage and Family: The Christ in Christmas

December 24, 2012
We love the entire Christmas season.  For us, December includes the month of our re-marriage.  In fact, this December 21st will be the 15th anniversary of our re-marriage.  Wow, that seems so long ago and like yesterday all at the same time.  People always ask us, how in the world did you guys ever reconcile?  How in the world did you get the love to come back?  How did you move past the past?  The answer for us is always the same:  because of Jesus.  We simply got to the place where we realized without Jesus, we simply would not make it.  This place of desperation and dependence delivered us to the bancruptcy of our own souls causing us to run to the only source of  grace, mercy, forgiveness and life: JESUS.  It's why Christmas means so much to us.  It's why without Christ there really is no Christmas.  Christ and HIS faithfulness to us, literally saved our marriage.
We want to remind you that God's ways and God's Word work.  The truth proclaimed in Mattew 1:21-23 is why we have hope...why we have Christmas ..."She will give birth to a son, and you are to give him the name Jesus, because he will save his people from their sins. All this took place to fulfill what the Lord had said through the prophet:  “The virgin will be with child and will give birth to a son, and they will call him Immanuel”—which means, “God with us.” (Matt. 1:21-23)  So, just for a moment, during the hustle and bustle of this Christmas season, remember because of the birth of Christ, we have Christmas....which means we have so much more than gifts and parties and food and fun.  Make no mistake about it, we love these parts of Christmas...but the Christ in Christmas means God has made a way to save his people from their sin. God showing great mercy, wrapped himself in flesh, left the glory of heaven to rescue us from the dominion of darknesss.  The birth of Christ is the culmination of God's faithfulness.  God has fulfilled HIS promises and now there is good news of GREAT JOY for all people.  Jesus Christ, the Messiah, the Savior of the world has come...GOD IS NOW WITH US!
You see, with the Christ in Christmas our sins are forgiven, God's faithfulness, God's presence, God's promises and God's purposes are now fulfilled in Christ.  This is where we found the faith and strength to could reconcile our marriage.  It's also why you have reason to celebrate Christmas this year like never before.  We don't know all that you are facing but we know this...the Christ of Christmas who saved our marriage is the one who offers you whatever you need this Christmas... your circumstances may be different, but Christ is the same.  It's why without Christ there is no Christmas...but with Christ....this blog would say to you what the Angel said to Mary:  "for nothing is impossibel with God!"
As you reflect on the Christ of Christmas, share with us the faithfulness of Christ in your own life.  Perhaps in your marriage, in the life of a friend or family member.  What are you most thankful for this Christmas and especially because of the Christ you just read about.  Your comments are always an amazing source of hope.  You never know what your real life faith journey and how the Jesus we proclaim is real and actively changing hearts and working miracles today. We love hearing from you, so post your comments.
