Better Together

The man said, “This is now bone of my bones, and flesh of my flesh. She will be called Woman, because she was taken out of Man.” For this reason, a man will leave his father and his mother, and will be joined to his wife. And they will become one flesh. The man and his wife were both without clothes and were not ashamed. Gen. 2:23-25, NLV

We are definitely better together. It is the teaching of scripture.

No wonder our adversary is roaming, sneaking, seeking, and looking to devour marriages.

He knows what happens when a husband and wife, truly live with the “we are better together” mantra for their marriage. He knows, a house divided can never stand (Matt. 12:25). Satan loves to steal, kill and destroy (John 10:10) anything that has abundance connected to God’s plans and purposes for his creation. And frankly, he is doing a great job at it. The “we are better together” mantra for marriage is greatly missing these days, and the ramifications and fallout are significant.

But what does “we are better together” really mean for your marriage? We are so glad you asked. Jesus gives us some insight into this in Matthew 19 when he quoted Genesis 1:23-25 declaring husbands and wives are to be one and joined together. The Greek word for “joined” literally means to be “glued together.” It’s like taking two pieces of wood and gluing them together such that the only way to separate the two pieces of wood, means you will destroy both pieces in the process. The word “one” also has some powerful meanings. It implies “one of a kind.” No marriage is like another, your marriage, your oneness is unique, one of a kind. Living out the “we are better together” mantra means you celebrate the uniqueness of your marriage, your spouse, and your relationship. Celebrate your differences, don’t let them become divisive.

The word “one” also means being “joined together in unity”. We find this when Jesus connects oneness and unity in his prayer in John 17:2 “I pray that they may all be one. Father! May they be in us, just as you are in me and I am in you. May they be one, so that the world will believe that you sent me.” Don’t miss this! When a Christian marriage, lives with the “we are better together” manta, they are declaring to the world that God has sent his son to the world. They are declaring the messiahship of Jesus, the goodness of God, the salvation of God, and the hope of God to a world that desperately needs to see an accurate representation of Jesus.

So how can you really live out the “we are better together” mantra? You begin by knowing that being better together, living in unity and oneness is first and foremost spiritual. It’s why Jesus (in John 17) connected our connection to his connection with his father. Living out the “we are better together” mantra, first and foremost happens when you see your marriage spiritually. You grow yourself spiritually in oneness with your heavenly father and then bring that to your marriage. When both a husband and a wife do this, WOW, what a powerfully joined, unified, better together marriage that is.

This is why we hope you will join us for Together 2023! We believe this event will be a personal and spiritual awakening and revival that brings about an awakening and revival in marriages.
